A Study of Precision Measurement Using Optical Method

Abstract
When a couple of optical diffraction gratings are brought into contact face to face, rectilinear fringes are seen lying perpendicular to the ruling direction of the gratings. This fringe is known by the name of "moire fringe", and has hitherto been used to examine the ruling quality of gratings, In recent years, as it has become easy to obtain very fine and large diffraction gratings, the application of moire fringe to measure fine length measurement has been remarkably developed, and it is expected to become a powerful means for Precision-Metrology.
I have recently developed an optical detecting-system for the precise measuring about the visibilities. The relative transmission intensity-distribution and frige-contrast of the various moire fringes depends on reference factors (Q?? d_p_c, d_p_T and t??).
This characteristic optical system-apparatus is a photograph in which the intenety distribution of the moire fringe is observed on a oscilloscope through a multiplier-phototube. The results show that the Contast of the fringes in general depends on the transmittance of the gratings; i.e. the greater the transmittance of the gratings, the lower the contrast of the fringe will be.
